These Past Few Days

Nowadays, I don't even try to take good photos. This project has become one that's all about struggling to the finish line at any cost. Here are pictures from the past few days:

A landmark in my city

I've seen stuff like this only on the doors and walls of loos in trains, this was in an elevator!

Double rainbow! On the way back from home after the Deepavali break. I saw a rainbow on my way there too!

I still remember the days of my childhood when this creeper came to our house - how taken we were with its exotica, and its fragrance. It smelled very sweet and there were ants running over the flowers all the time. I just realise I'd posted this on my other blog a couple of years ago.

Tamarind

As I was walking back from the gym, I chanced upon this tamarind tree full of fruit. It's been ages since I saw this sight. I stopped and stared for quite a while before I reached for my mobile phone to take a picture.

Foliage

It Rained!

Last night, there was some distant thunder and such scanty rain the earth didn't even get wet. Waking up in the middle of the night, I heard water gushing out of the rainwater drains - it made for a better day than the rest we've had so far. It made for a grey day.

Gulmohar

Just a few days ago, I was wondering what happened to all the gulmohar trees - I didn't remember seeing them in their usual fiery bloom for the last few years. I guess I was just not observant enough, because friends told me there were quite a few around. I saw one on the road yesterday but was too inhibited to whip out my camera and take a picture - I saw this in a friend's apartment complex today.

Sleepyhead

Known as the rain tree, it's called Nidra Ganneru in Telugu, Thoongu Moonji in Tamil, both names having to do something with its leaves that droop by the evening. There's a green-flower variety too! Here's more on this tree

An Unusual Flower

I spotted this Sivalinga flower/cannonball tree today. Here are some beautiful pictures of the same tree and its fruit too! And here's some information.


This is the fruit of the cannonball tree. This photo is from my trip to Thailand a couple of years ago. I didn't see any flowers there. It's known as the sala tree there.

Lone Mango

This picture has spring written all over it, doesn't it? The mango tree's leaves changing colour as the tree prepares to bear fruit, the sprays of buds/tiny fruit (inflorescence, is it - please pardon the technical ignorance and concentrate on the beauty of the writing), small, raw mangoes maturing into graceful green ones. Our neighbour's tree is really a sight for sore eyes that are preparing to go back to the computer no sooner than they came unstuck just a few minutes earlier.
