Sitting Down, Growing Up

The other heritage shots for today's picture were my cradle and my grandmother's Singer sewing machine. She had a fine pair of Singer scissors too, which I'm sure are lying well-preserved somewhere. Every time I come home, I open all the cupboards, search for something that brings back a memory and see if I can hold on to the past, with something physical to make it real and present.

  4. Siri, :-D Three of my grandparents passed away only recently, none left now - I grew up with them.
Jaya, this is at home (my parents') in AP - I went there for a 3-day visit, 2.5 days in fact. The cradle didn't come out well.
Rajitha, :) golu baby, golu adult. I left those pix behind on my Dad's computer.

  5. I hear ya, Sra! These lil' things from the past can sometimes, in a span of a moment, etch out an entire scene (and more, what with sights, smells and feelings) from our memories.

  6. Musy, yes, I don't know why but I associate these chairs with some grey cups that we used to drink soup in - maybe we used to sit on these and have that soup, not sure :)

  7. Talking of cups, once upon a time, long-long ago, lil' princess Ms. musical was in love with a certain cup (pyaali,as we call it in Punjabi). Those were the days i still could drink milk doped with some chai (before discontinuing it altogether and resuming only after 20 years or so). Guess what was the name of the cup? "Ghinchin pyaali" :P. Who knows what that even means, he he.
