Very Berry

This is the stuff of schoolhood. It was the first time I was seeing these 'regi pandlu'(in Telug, botanically called Zizyphus jujuba) with salt and chilli powder, though! Back home, we would always check them for worms first and then eat them. On Bhogi, the day before Sankranti, children are feted with these - they are poured over the children's heads. There is a bigger variety too.

  1. I know these. We call them bor (pronounced bore) and on Sankrati they would be poured over the new kid along with candy and small sesame balls.

  4. Just last week I had something (Elanda Vadai) made with these and I was wondering what they were called in English. Thanks for the botanical name, I can find out what it's commonly called.
